Aria's School Life

In Science this month we have been learning about Inventions and Inventors. I looked up who made Kleenex (Kimberly-Clark). We found out that trampolines and calculators and a bunch of other stuff was made by kids.  In music we've been finishing up orchestras. Today we learned about the string family of instruments.  In Social Studies we are learning about South America. The countries that we are learning about are Brazil, Argentina and tomorrow we are learning about Chile. We learned that Brazilians speak Portuguese but all the other countries in South America speak Spanish.  In math I started doing grade 5 work because grade 3 was too easy. Recently we've been learning about square roots and exponents and BEDMAS (Brackets, Exponents, Division, Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction - the order of operations.) For example:  (we have to do the brackets first, then the multiplication, then the rest) 3+2x4-(2+2)= 3+2x4-(4)= 3+8-4= 11-4= 7 In health we have been learning about he

Halloween Party

This is a blog for our families All Hallows Eve party. ( Halloween ) At the start, we did a bit of regular old school.  Candy launchers out of popsicle sticks and some elastics. I ended up getting 2nd place in our competition. I won a bit of candy. We read a Halloween story, Halloween puzzles, and a Clue Hunt. Mom hid clues around the house that we had to follow in order to get candy. Aria made yummy cupcakes, good, but WAY TOO MUCH frosting. It was so messy. Next, I got some candy, went to my desk, and ate while watching Youtube. In the evening, my sister went trick or treating, I chose not to go. by Liam

DNA, Beatles, French Class and Social Studies

This is Aria .  In Science we've been learning about DNA. DNA is "self-replicating material that is present in nearly all living organisms as the main part of chromosomes. It carries genetic information." An organism is "an individual animal, plant or single-cell life form." Chromosome is "a threadlike structure of nucleic acids and proteins found in the nucleus of most living cells (it contains genetic information in the form of genes." A Gene is "part of a chromosome which is transferred from a parent to offspring and is held to determine some characteristics of offspring." I made an edible DNA craft. It was yummy. It was made out of marshmallows and black licorice and toothpicks. Next we did music . We learned about The Beatles. We read a book and did two papers with questions about that the book answered. I learned that The Beatles are quite old. There are two still living, Paul and Ringo. They have nice music. They broke up in 1970. They

Liam's Introduction

Greetings, I am Liam Bailey. I am an 11 year old being homeschooled by my mother, Kathleen Bailey, currently. For Math, I have done things like Prime Factorization, Exponents, and at the time of writing, Line Graphs. This is all really difficult for me,  as due to some things I have, mostly some problems with memory and focusing. That is some of the reason for why I am homeschooled. For Science, we are doing DNA/Genes. Before it was some dinosaurs for September, and for October, now it is DNA. This is both half complicated and half not, as I know most of this already. For French, we did some Thanksgiving and Gratitude work in French. Usually quick. For some days, I also do Duolingo. For Literacy, I had to do this post today and for every other day, a page in a certain book and a reading comprehension  like work. That is all for this blog.

Orange Shirt Day and Indigenous Education

Mom here. I know it's not Wednesday and we just posted but I wanted to share with Liam and Aria worked on today to round out our First Nations/Indigenous unit study this month.  Here is our newsletter. If you can't read the print, here is a PDF.

All About Me (Alastrin) and my Past School Week

Hey, this is Alastrin. I am currently in grade 10. I have a total of 11 classes that I am going to do this year. The first semester consists of Astronomy, English, Mythology, Spanish, Mathematics (Algebra 2), and American Sign Language (ASL). Next semester I'll be taking Latin, History, Visual Arts, French, and Chemistry.      All throughout my Elementary years I had always been a bit bored since the work was far too easy for me. I of course liked that I understood the subjects and wasn't falling behind. I just didn't feel challenged too often. Since I have started high school, I've come to quickly realize just how different it was from my previous years. I had been doing in-person school for the first semester of grade 9. Overall I had a good experience. The teachers and students were all nice and everything. The only problem I had was the workload. Each class was 2 and a half hours long, and we did roughly 4 lessons a day. As well as tests and projects every othe

Introduction

Here is where we will share photos and stories of what we have done each week for homeschool. The students themselves and the teacher (me) will take turns every Wednesday to write for the blog. Tune in every Wednesday night to see what's new.  We will also be sharing work we've written, things we've drawn and more. The kids LOVE comments!
